The Career Criminal Major Crimes Bureau is looking for a felony Trial ADA to fill an opening in that bureau. Assistant District Attorney’s applying for the job should be ADA’s with significant felony trial experience.
The Career Criminal Major Crimes Bureau is primarily responsible for prosecuting recidivist violent felons who based on their extensive criminal history are subject to enhanced sentencing. Violent recidivist criminals are responsible for a large percentage of the violent crime that is committed against the People of Queens County. The Bureau’s case load is also comprised of cases of notoriety or public interest. The Bureau is made up of experienced trial prosecutors committed to the successful prosecution and enhanced sentencing of those offenders to keep the residents of Queens County safe and free from violent criminal activity.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Handling the bureau’s complex and sensitive cases from investigation through grand jury presentation.
- All aspects of trial preparation, including compliance with discovery obligations
- Handling significant legal and factual issues during suppression hearings.
- Prosecuting both jury and nonjury trials to conclusion.
- Treating family members who have suffered the ultimate loss with kindness and compassion.
Qualifications: Interested applicants must possess a J.D. degree, be an active member of the New York State bar in good standing and have at least 5 years post-J.D. experience. Applicants must also have:
- Substantial felony jury trial experience with cases involving serious violent crimes.
- Extensive experience in handling all aspects of criminal investigation and prosecution.
- Experience examining and cross-examining forensic experts in various disciplines, including ballistics, fingerprints, DNA, crime scene and medical and mental health issues.
- Excellent writing skills.
- Extensive knowledge of New York Penal and Criminal Procedure Laws.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Salary will be equal to Applicant’s current Class Salary.
