Description

Job Description:  We are seeking a manager in the Queens District Attorney’s Criminal Court Bureau (“CC”) who will manage and supervise attorneys and support staff during the prosecution of misdemeanor cases.  The Manager’s responsibilities include:  

  • Overseeing and managing part supervisors
  • Supervising and training CC attorneys and support staff regarding protocols and procedures
  • Conducting legal training for CC attorneys in best practices to enhance overall job performance including investigatory, trial advocacy and litigation skills and application of the highest ethical standards
  • Second seating new attorneys on hearings and bench and jury trials
  • Scheduling court assignments for legal and support staff members
  • Maintaining reports and analyzing statistics including dispositions, plea rates, discovery certification rates and bureau index crime resolution rates
  • Interfacing and troubleshooting as necessary with other agencies and groups including judges and other court staff, NYPD, Corporation Counsel, medical care providers, defense providers and counterparts at other district attorneys’ offices.

Qualifications:  An interested applicant must possess a J.D. degree, be an active member of the New York State bar in good standing and have at least 8 years of experience as a prosecutor.  Applicants should also have:

  • Felony jury trial experience
  • Demonstrated experience supervising junior assistants and trial prep assistants in case analysis and enhancement
  • Ability to work non-traditional/evening hours to supervise ADAs working past 5:00 PM
  • Demonstrated experience in training, interacting and/or liaising with other law enforcement agencies
  • Comprehensive knowledge of crimes contained in NY Penal and Criminal Procedure Laws
  • Strong knowledge of criminal justice reform, with an emphasis on discovery requirements
  • Thorough working knowledge of the NYC Criminal Court
  • Demonstrated ability to work and respond in a high-volume fast-paced environment
  • Prior management or teaching experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Superior organizational skills

Both title and salary will be commensurate with experience. Titles include Section Chief, Assistant Deputy Bureau Chief and Deputy Bureau Chief. Salary range is from $145,000 to $175,000.
