Description

We are seeking a highly experienced and accomplished prosecutor to head our Homicide Bureau. Candidates should have extensive experience trying complex and challenging cases and have a record of successfully negotiating and dealing with the glare and pressure of intense media scrutiny. The ideal candidate will be an inspiration to the other assistants and provide leadership for one of the Office’s premier trial bureaus.  The bureau chief should be able to teach the assistants how to advance to the next level of trial advocacy while embracing the highest standards of ethics and professionalism.

Qualifications: Interested applicants must possess a J.D. degree, be an active member of the New York State bar in good standing and have at least 15 years post-J.D. experience. Applicants must also have:

  • Extensive experience in handling all aspects of criminal investigation and prosecution.
  • Substantial felony jury trial experience with cases involving homicides.
  • Prior experience managing junior attorneys.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Among the areas of expertise/mastery required:

  • All aspects of New York Police Department practice and procedures;
  • Grand Jury practice;
  • Article 125 & the law on justification;
  • Mental health defenses;
  • Forensic evidence, including DNA, ballistics and fingerprint analysis; electronic/digital evidence; forensic pathology.

The salary is $192,731

This position will require the ability to manage a staff of senior assistants, including supervisors and deputies, as well as paralegals and detectives, and to be accessible to the District Attorney at all times.

Pursuant to Public Officers Law Section 3(1), United States citizenship is required of all Assistant District Attorneys upon commencement of their employment, as is New York State residency.
