Brave Justice Summer Legal Internship 2021
Title:Brave Justice Summer Legal Internship 2021
Location:Kew Gardens, NY

The Brave Justice Summer Legal Internship Program, recently established by District Attorney Melinda Katz, is designed to provide law students with an outstanding opportunity to learn about the Queens District Attorney’s Office, which serves the most diverse county in the country. This year, Summer Interns will also have the unique experience to see the transformation in progress as District Attorney Katz continues to take on a bold new course to achieve a more forward looking and progressive office.

Interns will be assigned to bureaus under newly created Divisions and will work with Assistant District Attorneys.*  Depending on the assignment, they will engage in many aspects of prosecutorial work, such as: research and writing assignments, including briefs to be heard by the Appellate Division, Second Department of New York State Supreme Court; motion and discovery practice; civilian and police interviews; Court appearances pursuant to the student practice order; crimes scene visits; and participation in community outreach through the Community Partnerships Division. Interns will also be exposed to the inner workings of the Alternative Sentencing initiatives which give selected defendants a second chance to redirect their lives.

The Brave Justice Summer Legal Internship Program will also include numerous events and multiple lectures throughout the summer to introduce Interns to the various facets of the Criminal Justice System and most importantly to the community of professionals in the Court system who work in their respective roles to achieve justice for victims and the accused.

The eight-week program begins on June 7, 2021 and ends on July 30, 2021. This is an unpaid internship. We encourage students to apply for special funding, grants, stipends, or externship credits, through their law school.

*Please note, this internship is currently open to Law students only*

Please address resume and cover letter to Mariela Palomino Herring, Esq., Director of Legal Hiring.

*The format of this internship will be determined based on health and safety concerns. The options will range from in person, to hybrid (in person/remote work), or a fully remote program. Interns will be advised of the format before their start date.

The Office of the Queens District Attorney is an equal opportunity employer with a strong commitment to the diversity of our organization and workforce.
