Description

This manager’s position in the Queens District Attorney’s Domestic Violence Bureau will assist in the supervision of the felony assistant district attorneys, misdemeanor assistant district attorneys, Detective Investigators, and support staff in conducting all facets of investigations and prosecutions of domestic violence. Among this manager’s responsibilities are:

  • Assisting in supervising and managing Domestic Violence Bureau management staff, Assistant District Attorneys with varied levels of experience, detectives, and support staff.
  • Assisting in supervising and managing the Animal Cruelty Unit management staff, Assistant District Attorneys with varied levels of experience, detectives, and support staff.
  • Presenting regular briefings to the District Attorney.
  • Training Domestic Violence Bureau attorneys in best practices, and helping to enhance job performance including investigatory, trial advocacy and litigation skills, while reinforcing the highest ethical standards.
  • Assisting in managing new case assignments and the allocation of personnel resources.
  • Formulating and approving negotiated pleas, reviewing, and authorizing grand jury presentments, and reviewing voted indictments prior to filing.
  • When appropriate, handling a curated case load of active prosecutions.
  • Assisting in overseeing the Domestic Violence Strategic Threat Alert Team, which enhances the prosecution of pre-arrest cases.
  • Interacting with the Queens Family Justice Center partner agencies to address targeted high risk domestic violence cases.
  • Interfacing with other agencies including NYPD, the Mayor’s Office to End Domestic and Gender Based Violence, Safe Horizon, and the Department of Probation.
  • Conferencing cases as needed with defense counsel and courts.
  • Undertaking any task of a subordinate when necessary to support a domestic violence prosecution.

Qualifications: An interested applicant must possess a J.D. degree, be an active member of the New York State bar in good standing and have at least 9 years post-J.D. experience. The ideal applicant also has:

  • Extensive experience working with victims of domestic violence and conducting a trauma informed forensic interview.
  • Substantial investigatory and felony jury trial experience, including cases involving domestic violence.
  • Prior experience interacting with agencies involved in Domestic Violence cases including the NYPD Domestic Violence Unit, the Mayor’s Office to End Domestic and Gender Based Violence, and Safe Horizon.
  • Significant experience prosecuting domestic violence cases using evidence-based techniques.
  • Thorough understanding of the doctrine of forfeiture by wrongdoing and its application to domestic violence cases.
  • Prior management experience preferred.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills.

Title and salary dependent upon experience.

The salary range is $131,000.00 to $165,000.00.
