Job Description
The Crime Strategies Bureau Chief will oversee and manage a bureau comprised of assistant district attorneys, analysts and support professionals who are responsible for gathering, verifying and analyzing intelligence and data from numerous sources to identify crime trends and the individuals responsible for such within Queens County.

Responsibilities

  • Establish objectives, policies and organizational structure and operating model of newly formed bureau.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including the New York City Police Department, other state, local and federal agencies, government agencies and community organizations to develop and implement strategies focused on reducing crime, especially violent crime and improve public safety.
  • Identify and map those areas of concentrated criminal conduct in order to more effectively and efficiently deploy law enforcement (including those of the office) to reduce violence and improve public safety.
  • Serve as a resource for delivering targeted information to bureaus and units throughout the office, in order to assist them in making data-driven decisions regarding investigations, prosecutions and defendants’ participation in alternative-to-incarceration programs.
  • Facilitate in harnessing innovative technologies, data science and other information sharing techniques that promote the gathering and dissemination of actionable intelligence throughout the office and larger criminal justice system.
  • Attend court proceedings and review court transcripts.
  • Attend community meetings and events, including in evening hours.
  • Compile and analyze data, maintain statistics and analyze trends and prepare management reports.

Qualifications
Interested applicants must possess a J.D. degree, be an active member of the New York State bar in good standing and have at least 15 years post-J.D. experience. Applicants must also have:

  • Extensive experience in handling all aspects of criminal investigation and prosecution
  • Extensive knowledge of New York Penal and Criminal Procedure Laws
  • Experience managing junior attorneys
  • Experience collaborating with law enforcement and other governmental agencies.
  • Strong organizational, written and oral skills.
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced high volume environment.
