Description

The Homicide Bureau, integrating some of the Office’s most experienced and seasoned trial lawyers with an imbedded group of riding assistants who are involved in the investigation from its inception, is seeking an assistant with significant trial experience to investigate, indict and try murder and manslaughter cases.

The trial ADAs that are assigned to the bureau are among some of the most experienced and dedicated trial assistants in the office and are strongly committed to the successful and thorough investigation and prosecution of some of the most violent and heinous crimes that occur within our county in our continuing effort to keep the residents of Queens County safe and free from violent criminal activity.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Handling the bureau’s complex and sensitive cases from investigation through grand jury presentation.
  • All aspects of trial preparation, including compliance with discovery obligations
  • Handling significant legal and factual issues during suppression hearings.
  • Prosecuting both jury and nonjury trials to conclusion.
  • Treating family members who have suffered the ultimate loss with kindness and compassion.

Qualifications: Interested applicants must possess a J.D. degree, be an active member of the New York State bar in good standing and have at least 8 years post-J.D. experience. Applicants must also have:

  • Substantial felony jury trial experience with cases involving serious violent crimes.
  • Extensive experience in handling all aspects of criminal investigation and prosecution.
  • Experience examining and cross-examining forensic experts in various disciplines, including ballistics, fingerprints, DNA, crime scene and medical and mental health issues.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of New York Penal and Criminal Procedure Laws.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Salary will be commensurate with experience, ranging from $120,678 to $144,000.
