Job Description:  Supervisors in the Queens District Attorney’s Criminal Court Bureau (“CC”) manage and supervise attorneys and support staff during the prosecution of misdemeanor cases.  Supervisors also share with Deputy Chiefs and the Bureau Chief, day-to-day operational responsibilities for CC.  More specifically, a supervisor’s responsibilities include:  

  • Overseeing and managing a team of Criminal Court ADAs and support staff members
  • Second seating new attorneys on hearings and bench and jury trials
  • Evaluating incoming cases and formulating plea offers and supervising calendar calls
  • Training CC attorneys and support staff on standards and burdens of proof
  • Training CC attorneys in best practices to enhance overall job performance including investigatory, trial advocacy and litigation skills and application of the highest ethical standards
  • Scheduling court assignments for legal and support staff members
  • Maintaining reports and analyzing statistics including dispositions, plea rates, discovery certification rates and bureau index crime resolution rates
  • Interfacing and troubleshooting as necessary with other agencies and groups including judges and other court staff.
  • Ability to work non-traditional/evening hours to supervise ADAs working past 5:00 PM
  • Covers for Deputy Bureau Chief when Deputy Bureau Chief is out of the office

Qualifications:  An interested applicant must possess a J.D. degree, be an active member of the New York State bar in good standing and have at least 5 years of experience as a prosecutor. 

Applicants should also have:

  • Demonstrated a history of felony jury trial experience
  • Demonstrated experience supervising junior assistants and trial prep assistants in case analysis and enhancement
  • Demonstrated experience in training, interacting and/or liaising with other law enforcement agencies
  • Comprehensive knowledge of crimes contained in Penal and Criminal Procedure Laws
  • Strong knowledge of criminal justice reform, with an emphasis discovery requirements
  • Thorough working knowledge of the NYC Criminal Court
  • Demonstrated ability to work and respond in a high-volume fast-paced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Superior organizational skills
Salary and title will be commensurate with experience.  Salary range from $112,500 to $141,000.
