Description

The Queens County District Attorney’s Office is looking for applicants to fill a full-time, entry level Trial Preparation Assistant (TPA) position within the Homicide Bureau.

Trial Preparation Assistants have a wide array of responsibilities which may involve compiling, analyzing, redacting and reproducing case documents for discovery compliance and case preparation in a timely fashion; preparing and filing documents; drafting legal documents and correspondence; identifying, locating, communicating and scheduling various witnesses; coordinating travel arraignments; assist in preparing hearing/trial exhibits and discovery for trial; assisting attorneys in the courtroom; and conducting legal research and writing.

Preferred Education and Qualification Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Criminal Justice, Paralegal Studies or related area or equivalent education and/or experience. Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience as a paralegal, legal assistant or in another similar capacity or candidates with an A.B.A. approved paralegal certificate. All candidates must have at least a high school diploma or its educational equivalent.

TPA’s must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to interact with staff at all levels, to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with competing demands, and to treat family members who have suffered the ultimate loss with kindness and compassion. Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach, including strong follow-up skills, accuracy and the ability to meet deadlines is also required.  Discretion and integrity to work on highly confidential investigations is essential.

Job Details:

Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM.  Overtime is regularly available based on the needs of the bureau.

STARTING SALARY (NON-NEGOTIABLE): $55,000.; upon completion of two years of continuous service, salary: $60,000.
