Description

The Office of the Queens County District Attorney (QDA) is seeking applicants for an Administrative Assistant position to help support QDA’s Crime Victims Advocate Program (CVAP).  The focus of CVAP is to provide crime victims in Queens County with criminal justice support, assistance completing Office of Victims Services (OVS) applications and emotional and crisis counseling.

The Administrative Assistant will be responsible for a variety of duties including, but not limited to the following:

  • Heavy phone coverage, answering the main phone line and handling inquiries from the public
  • Assisting with scheduling cab rides for witnesses, as needed
  • Preparing and mailing correspondence to crime victims
  • Assisting ADAs with registering Witness Contact Verizon codes for victims
  • Assisting with data entry, document uploads, and searching for information in the office’s Case Tracking System
  • Ordering and receiving office supplies
  • Maintaining program brochures and ensuring distribution throughout QDA’s office locations
  • Organizing and/or participating in community events and special projects, as needed.  Some evening and weekend hours may be required.
  • Participating in staff meetings and supervisions
  • Perform all other relevant duties as determined by Director and Associate Director

Preferred Education and Qualification Requirements:

Qualified candidates must have at least a high school diploma (or its educational equivalent).  Candidates must have strong computer skills and be familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and online meeting platforms.  Candidate should also have excellent time management skills, the ability to multi-task, strong attention to detail, and excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.

Applicants must be able to regularly work Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and may be required to work evenings/and or weekend hours based on CVAP needs.

Strong preference will be given to candidates with a bachelor’s degree, prior clerical experience, including experience with data entry into computerized systems and handling documents of sensitive nature (filing, delivering, scanning, etc.).

Preference will also be given to candidates with knowledge of trauma informed care, previous experience working with crime victims, and familiarity with the criminal justice system. Fluency in Spanish is also preferred.
