Description

The Office of the Queens County District Attorney (QDA) is seeking an Administrative Coordinator for its Litigation Support Group to assist the Director of Discovery Compliance, who oversees QDA’s Law Enforcement Officer Witnesses Unit (LEOW) and a team of QDA trial preparation assistants/paralegals. The Litigation Support Group serves an office of over 800 staff.

The Director of Discovery Compliance is QDA’s attorney liaison to QDA staff, as well as the NYPD, for information technology and discovery-related issues, including police officer disciplinary records. The Director works with QDA attorneys, information technology staff, and police officers to enhance document sharing practices required under NYS criminal practice discovery laws. The Director also oversees LEOW, which is responsible for obtaining, reviewing, and distributing police officer disciplinary records. The Director also oversees a team of QDA trial preparation assistants/paralegals who liaise with the NYPD to ensure the expedited receipt of discoverable documents. This position offers the unique opportunity to work on dynamic issues involving computer technology, discovery, and police disciplinary records.

Tasks assigned will include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing administrative support to the Director of Discovery Compliance
  • Maintaining and distributing up to date contact information for QDA and NYPD liaisons
  • Receiving and evaluating internal requests for documents
  • Maintaining various databases that track the request, receipt, and distribution of documents
  • Communicating with QDA staff and external partner agencies to ensure the receipt of documents necessary for attorneys to certify compliance with discovery laws
  • Assisting the Director of Discovery Compliance in preparation of meetings with the NYPD and other agencies
  • Under the supervision of the Director, perform civil lawsuit searches on state and federal court websites including PACER, and track case law on Lexis Nexis and Westlaw
  • Reviewing and redacting highly sensitive documents
  • Preparing materials for training manuals, classes, and litigation
  • Performing clerical and related duties as needed including answering phones, taking messages, faxing, scanning and copying
  • Performing other related duties as assigned to support the Director of Discovery Compliance

Preferred Education and Qualification Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree with educational focus on criminal justice or related education and/or experience. Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience as a paralegal, legal assistant or other work in the criminal justice field. All candidates must have at least a high school diploma or its educational equivalent.

The administrative coordinator must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrate the ability to interact with attorneys, staff, police officers, convicted persons, and outside agencies in a professional manner, and have the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with competing demands. Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach, including strong follow-up skills, accuracy, and the ability to meet deadlines is also required. Adherence to stringent requirements regarding legal records management, data protection, and privacy/confidentiality is required. The Administrative Coordinator must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word and Excel. Experience with the federal courts’ PACER website is also preferred.

Salary Range: $50,000 - $60,000 (Commensurate with experience)
