 The Queens County District Attorney’s Office (QDA) is seeking an Intelligence Analyst for its Crime Strategies & Intelligence Bureau. The Crime Strategies & Intelligence Bureau (CSIB) proactively gathers and analyzes crime data and intelligence to drive the Office’s strategies on crime reduction and public safety. Members of CSIB work closely with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies (primarily the New York City Police Department), bureaus within QDA, and other stakeholders within the community, to identify and study crime trends, groups, and individuals most responsible for driving crimes that impact our communities including violent crime, theft, fraud, and quality of life offenses.

The Intelligence Analyst will be responsible for collaborating with the unit’s Supervising Intelligence Analyst and Director and will assist in planning the deployment of resources for the prevention and suppression of c    criminal activities. 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Performs research, compiles, and analyzes complex information/data regarding geographical information system (GIS) management; gathers relevant data, information and/or documentation from a variety of sources; performs high level and highly complex intelligence analysis program development and design.
  2. Performs difficult, complex, and sensitive projects; makes recommendations for the use of best practices and innovation in prosecutorial analytical techniques; has great independence of action and consequence of error in formulating recommendations for management.
  3. Coordinates, analyzes, evaluates, and interprets intelligence and crime data in preparing routine and special reports for legal, investigative, and support personnel.
  4. Prepares difficult, complex ad hoc reports produced on a daily, monthly and annual basis; compiles crime analysis and intelligence data; presents background information and description of analytical standards; outlines findings indicating crime patterns/trends; writes final reports and documentation; presents reports which may include formal presentations; performs statistical and spatial analysis.
  5. Interprets the results of intelligence and statistical analysis through presentations of data at meetings or through consultation with legal, investigative and support personnel.
  6. Coordinates with QDA bureaus in offering litigation support services including evaluation for alternatives to incarceration, witness background and social media analysis, and acting as a liaison to NYPD Precinct Field Intelligence Officers for assistance on active prosecutions and investigations.
  7. Assists in the acquisition, development, and use of industry-current and in-house proprietary applications to gather, analyze, and process data to produce a complete model of crime trends in Queens’ neighborhoods.
  8. Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college required (preferably in data science, mathematics/statistics, computer science, or criminal justice) or the equivalent education and experience.  Two (2) years of related experience is highly preferred.
  • Formal intelligence analysis training and/or certification preferred.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables; charts; functions; etc.) required.
  • Candidates must be highly skilled in standard operating systems and software (Windows, Microsoft Office, Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
  • Strong skillset in data mapping, including geocoding; photo editing; and a fast learner regarding new technology tools and software. Experience using Photoshop; ArcGIS; i2 Analyst Notebook; Palantir; etc. a plus.
  • Ability to handle multiple challenging assignments, detailed oriented with superior organizational, analytical, writing and communication skills.
  • Capable of building institutional relationships with community residents and organizations, police, and other law enforcement agencies.
  • Ability to effectively communicate investigative results to other team members and to testify in court if necessary.
  • An understanding of general practices related to legal records management, data protection, and privacy/confidentiality.

Salary Range:  $55,000 - $65,000, commensurate with experience
