The Queens County District Attorney’s Office is seeking a full-time Spanish interpreter for its Grand Jury Bureau to assist with the preparation and presentment of criminal cases to a grand jury.  

The Grand Jury Bureau Interpreter’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

1. Assisting assistant district attorneys with interviewing witnesses

2. Translating during grand jury presentment

3. Translating written materials or recordings from English to Spanish and Spanish to English

     including legal documents, witness statements, press releases, and other related documents

4. Providing court testimony on translations and interpretations performed

5. Assisting with other assignments, as determined by supervisors

Preferred Education and Qualification Requirements:

Qualified candidates must have at least a high school diploma or its educational equivalent.  Strong preference will be given to candidates with a bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of professional translation and interpretation experience.

Candidates must be court-certified and must have oral and written fluency in both Spanish and English.

Candidates must have the ability to multi-task, communicate effectively, be detail-oriented and have excellent listening skills to maintain a high level of accuracy during interpretation. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is preferred.

Applicants must be able to regularly work Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm.

Salary Range: $63,363 - $70,000 (Commensurate with experience)
