Description

The Office of the Queens County District Attorney is seeking applicants for an Elder Abuse Social Worker to support our Elder Abuse Program, which provides specialized direct services to crime victims ages 60 and older.

The Elder Abuse Social Worker will provide Queens seniors who have been victims of crimes or abuse with a variety of services including supportive counseling, telephone reassurance and follow-up, criminal justice support and advocacy, assistance completing Office of Victim Services (OVS) claim applications, and information about community services.

The Elder Abuse Social Worker will perform the following job functions including but not limited to:                   

  1. Providing supportive services to elderly crime victims through face-to-face visits in the victim’s home, hospital room, nursing home room, or the program’s office, or by telephone or e-mail
  2. Developing safety plans with crime victims
  3. Assisting crime victims with completing OVS claim applications and following up on the status of pending claims
  4. Serving as a liaison between elderly victims and the NYPD, the court system and other Queens DA’s Office bureaus and programs
  5. Advocating for the needs and rights of elderly victims with a variety of community-based organizations and government agencies and collaborating on joint service provision. Examples of agencies may include neighborhood senior centers, case management agencies, Meals on Wheels programs, Department for the Aging (DFTA), Adult Protective Services (APS), health and mental health organizations, New York City Housing Authority and Victim Information and Notification Everyday (VINE)
  6. Providing information to elderly crime victims on relevant programs and services and making referrals
  7. Documenting all services provided to crime victims for use in required monthly and/or quarterly statistical reports

Preferred Education and Qualification Requirements:

Qualified candidates must have an LMSW license, a valid NY State driver’s license and access to a car, and at least 3 years of social work experience. Prior experience working with seniors, victims or the criminal justice system is desirable. Must have a working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office software, excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with others. Bilingual ability in Spanish or any Asian language desirable.

Application Information:

Salary Range:  $65,000 - $75,000 (Commensurate with experience) 
Comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, 401K and more. Salary commensurate with experience.
